.

The Origin of the Term 'Turkey' in Cycling

The term 'Turkey' has been used to describe a cyclist who is struggling and falls behind their group since the early 1900's. It is believed the term originated in the United States and may have been derived from the phrase 'turkey trot,' which was used to describe a slow or awkward gait. This term was also used to describe a slow-moving horse.

Today, the term 'Turkey' is still used in cycling to describe someone who is struggling or not taking the sport seriously. While the origin of the term is still debated, it is clear that it has been used in cycling for over a century.
